Welcome to Mynydd y Gaer Action Group

At Mynydd y Gaer Action Group, we are dedicated to preserving our local landscape by objecting to the latest windfarm development at Mynydd y Gaer.

We already have over 76 turbines within the area and we are simply saying NO to any more.

Our Concerns

Too Many Turbines

There are currently 76 turbines visible from Glynogwr Church. We have no objection  to renewables but on this scale, they become dominant and the cumulative effect of this many in close proximity to local communities will become  oppressive.

Destruction of Landscape

Wales is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world, with 1 in 6 species facing extinction. Over 90% of the land in Wales is used for agriculture.

Coity Walia common comprising Mynydd y Gaer is one of the last wildernesses remaining in Bridgend County. It is unthinkable that we would destroy this and deny it to future generations.

No Local Benefit

The proposed development will create no local jobs and all the equipment will be bought from foreign suppliers. The development will destroy local habitats and peat bogs on the mountain and as a community we will lose a large section of common land that we will never get back.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the new proposed development?

CENIN are currently proposing a total of twelve turbines along the ridge of Mynydd y Gaer roughly following the Ogwr Ridgeway Walk.

How big are the proposed turbines?

The proposed turbines are a massive 185m tall. These are among the tallest to be used onshore in Wales. For scale, the height of Mynydd y Gaer from the bridle path on the north side is 190m. The turbines will tower over Blackmill and Glynogwr.

How can I help?

Use our contact page to get in touch or submit an objection directly to CENIN. Once planning permission has officially been applied for (December), we have only 5 weeks to then submit objections to PEDW.

If planning permission is granted for this development, we will lose a valuable part of our local countryside. This will only be the start - as with the other windfarms in the area, they will only be enlarged and will increase in size over the years to come. Our best chance to prevent this is to stop it at this planning stage.
